Vision

The International Orthodox University of Baptism (Al-Maghtas) is an academic institution affiliated with the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Based at the Holy Baptism Site in Jordan, it serves as an Orthodox beacon of thought, research, and dialogue, connecting the rich heritage of the Orthodox Church with the contemporary multicultural reality. It aims to prepare spiritual leaders and academic thinkers committed to serving the Church and society in the Arabic-speaking world and the diaspora through academic and research programs focused on theology, humanistic thought, and cultural dialogue, in a manner that combines authenticity and openness, responsible freedom, and ecclesiastical belonging. The university operates within a global Orthodox vision, open to international cooperation, and Jordan is considered an ideal location for this role due to its religious stability and sacred history.

Mission

That the International Orthodox University of Al-Maghtas in Jordan be an intellectual and spiritual beacon in the Middle East, contributing to the renewal of religious education, promoting interfaith dialogue, and preparing influential leaders who bear witness to their faith with love and openness, and who serve the Church and society with a scientific and humane spirit.
